Band of Horses cover

Remember when you put on this album and I was like, is this song a cover? Well I was thinking of this girl covering it:

Gravity as an emergent entropic force

Erik Verlinde is a theoretical physicist who has published a paper that proposes an explanation of gravity as a non-fundamental force that arises from the second law of thermodynamics as applied to the holographic universe theory. It’s a concise, almost intuitive idea and if it withstands peer analysis from the scientific community, it would be an answer to a question that has stumped physicists since Newton.

There are two posts on The Hammock Physicist that offer a pretty high-level overview of the theory:

Here are some clarifying comments from Verlinde:

D’Artagnan’s Cassoulet kit

Only $83.99! Next Christmas, perhaps.

This classic casserole of preserved duck, sausage and beans is the heart of traditional Gascon cooking. Makes a hearty meal to be shared with friends and a great bottle (or two) of wine!

Vids!

Close-up card magic! So sloppy, and amazing
